Patient & Family Stories

What Families Are Saying

Real words from the families we have had the honor of serving across Georgia.

★★★★★

We didn’t know what to do when the doctor told us. My sister and I were just lost. A friend mentioned Green Haven and within hours someone was at mama’s house. The nurse didn’t rush us — she sat right down with us, answered every question, and helped mama feel comfortable for the first time in weeks. Mama passed two weeks later but she was peaceful and she wasn’t afraid. I think about that every single day.”

★★★★★

Our first concern was cost. We simply did not know if we could afford proper hospice care. Green Haven was clear from the very first call: Medicare would cover everything. Not “most things” — everything. That allowed us to stop worrying about finances and simply be present with Dad. The clinical care was thorough. But it was the humanity — from every nurse, every aide — that we will carry with us.”

★★★★★

As a hospital discharge planner, I have referred several families to Green Haven over the past year. Every time, the intake was fast, the clinical team was professional, and the communication back to our unit was excellent. What I tell colleagues is this: when one of my referrals had an urgent situation at 2 a.m., a nurse was at their home within the hour. In this field, that kind of reliability is not common — Green Haven delivers it every time.”

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what families ask most.

Hospice care is specialized support for patients who are no longer pursuing curative treatment and have a prognosis of six months or less. Palliative care is comfort-focused support that can be provided at any stage of a serious illness, alongside curative or life-prolonging treatment. Both focus on comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Yes. Medicare Part A covers 100% of hospice services for eligible patients, including nursing visits, physician oversight, medications related to the terminal diagnosis, medical equipment, home health aide services, counseling, and bereavement support. There are no co-pays for covered hospice services. Medicaid and most private insurance plans also cover hospice.

No. Hospice care is appropriate for any terminal illness with a prognosis of six months or less. This includes heart disease, COPD, kidney failure, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, and many other conditions. Our team serves patients across a wide range of diagnoses.

Hospice care meets patients where they live. We provide care in private homes, assisted living facilities, group homes, and skilled nursing facilities throughout our Georgia service area. Our goal is to let patients remain in a familiar, comfortable environment surrounded by the people they love.

Yes. Hospice is completely voluntary. Patients and families may choose to leave hospice care at any time — including if the patient’s condition improves or if they decide to pursue curative treatment. If needed, patients can be re-enrolled in hospice later.

The right time is now — whenever you have questions. Families often wait too long, missing months of comfort-focused support. If your loved one has a serious illness, frequent hospitalizations, declining function, or uncontrolled symptoms, we encourage you to call us. There is no obligation, and a conversation costs nothing.
